CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER


THIS RECRUITMENT IS OPEN AND PROMOTIONAL


The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies occurring during the next 12 months.

Basic Function and Essential Duties

BASIC FUNCTION:


Under the direction of the Chief Campus Security Officer or assigned administrator, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the well-being and safety of students and staff; assure student compliance with school and District rules and procedures.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


Patrol and supervise assigned areas of campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, and within supervised areas; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas.
Enforce school and District rules, regulations and procedures; investigate and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent or break up student conflicts and fights; investigate students under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
Investigate and report instances of gang activities, theft, graffiti and vandalism; take photographs; prepare student referrals and contracts as appropriate; prepare summaries or reports on related issues and place students on Extended Contract; advise student and parent in writing of behavior against the District or school rules and policies; receive and file signed contracts; make notes in student disciplinary records as appropriate; assist with the removal of graffiti.
Monitor student behavior and activity during passing periods and lunchtime; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods; assure students have proper authorization before leaving campus.
Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; escort delinquent students to and from administration offices; retrieve students as requested by administrators.
Administer emergency first aid and CPR as necessary; arrange for emergency medical services as needed; serve as first responder to emergency situations.
Monitor campus for illegal activity; search backpacks, cars, clothing and lockers for and confiscate tobacco, drugs, weapons, paraphernalia and other illegal or unauthorized possessions according to established procedures and regulations as assigned.
Communicate with personnel to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; provide information to and assist police in matters of illegal student activity and behavior; prepare incident reports.
Assist teachers with removing unruly or disruptive students from the classroom as needed.
Provide security during sporting events, dances and other special events and after-school activities.
Participate in the resolution of other issues including gang activity, missing students, stolen property and cyber-bullying as needed.
Unlock and lock gates, hallway doors or lockers as assigned.
Provide translations between parents, students, staff or others in a designated second language as assigned by the position.
Operate a two-way radio and walkie-talkie; respond to radio calls

Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year of experience in security or experience working with adolescent students.
Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:


Methods of individual and group supervision.
Gang and graffiti recognition and involvement.
Basic interests, attitudes and emotional development of adolescents.
Oral and written communication skills.
Health and safety regulations.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Basic report preparation techniques.
