Job Overview : Assists the Community’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer in directing and leading staff in enforcing state, federal and tribal laws and local ordinances. Responsible for administering and encouraging compliance with the zoning, health, safety and nuisance codes of the Community and Community property. Provide public safety, resource and recreation protection according to applicable statutes, regulations and policies. Provide management, supervision and development of CSO program. Represents department in Native American equity, recruitment and development programs.
Supervises conservation and community services officers.
Communicates with Community members to build mutual trust and respect; to be helpful and supportive within the organization and in providing service to the Community.
Responsible for identifying ordinance violations within the Community; responding to complaints, and promptly and cooperatively working with residents and enterprises to resolve ordinance violations. enforce all authorized recreational, environmental and emerging issues and regulations; investigate complaints. Serves notice to individuals that the Business Council excludes from the Reservation.
Responds to complaints of stray or dangerous animals; and assists in recovery of animals. Investigates animal bites and alleged violations, interviews witnesses, and reports violations. Examines and inspects establishments housing animals for compliance with laws and issues warnings or summonses to violators.
Maintains a variety of logs, records and written correspondence to document inspection and enforcement activities. Records facts and prepares report to document activities. Ensures compliance of the Community’s Fish and Game Ordinance. Attends coordinated training with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and local law enforcement agencies.
Assists with Native American employee equity, recruiting and development programs.
