Part Time Custodian (Children & Youth)

FULL TIME - CYP CUSTODIAN

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program Custodian position is to provide a variety of semiskilled labor and cleaning tasks for the CYP facilities to include Child Development Centers (CDCs), School Age Care (SAC) programs, Youth Programs, Child Development Home (CDH) offices and lending libraries. Help All custodial and housekeeping services will be performed according to the established specifications. Child and youth routines will not be disturbed by custodial activities. Some of the daily cleaning services will take place when programs are not in operation and children and youth are not present. The CYP custodian has responsibilities related to cleaning and to the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Cleaning Requirements

Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, polishes floors and cleans carpets.
Wipes mirrors, metal doorplates, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and all metal fittings.
Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, and uses stepladders and extension ladders to change light bulbs, replace blinds, and wash walls.
Dusts, waxes and polishes furniture. Dusting furniture, equipment, and surfaces will not be done within the reach of children.
Maintains restrooms in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. Reports water leaks, clogged drains and other conditions requiring repairs to supervisor.
Use and Maintenance of Equipment and Supplies
Operates powered cleaning equipment, cleans and oils equipment, and changes brushed and accessories.
Maintains cleaning supplies and advises supervisor when supplies are needed or when equipment needs repairs or replacement. All custodial equipment, supplies and materials will be approved by the health consultant or safety officer.
Ensures that hallways, stairways, entrances, and doorways are not obstructed by any cleaning or maintenance operations or storage of equipment and materials.
Stores custodial supplies and equipment properly in locked cabinets or closets away from child and youth activity rooms.
Loads and unloads merchandise, equipment and supplies.
Assembles equipment.
May be required (less than 10% of the time) to deliver merchandise, equipment and supplies to other locations.
May be required to move, set-up and/or rearrange furniture, as well as, set-up and break-down for special events.
Responsible for complying with security, fire and sanitation rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.

Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
Ability to complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. Selectee is required to participate in the direct deposit pay program.
Knowledge of a variety of chemical and cleaning agents.
Skill to use a variety of household and industrial equipment and attachments.
Skill to operate, clean, and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
Physical ability to move furniture, lift and move objects over 50 1bs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skill.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
**Each eligible installation Navy CYP employee will receive a 100 percent discount for the first child enrolled and a 25 percent discount for each additional child enrolled. The 100 percent discount will apply to the child with the highest fee. If a household has two CYP employees, each employee is eligible for a 100 percent discount for one child, with a 25 percent discount for each additional child. The discount will apply to children enrolled full-time or part-time in a Child Development Center, 24/7 Center, School Age Care program or Family Child Care program. The discount is for any installation full-time, part-time, and flexible staff member working a minimum average of 15 hours per week.
Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act and therefore use of marijuana is illegal under Federal law regardless of State laws. A positive drug test result for marijuana (or any other drug tested for) will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for a position within the Department of Defense for 6 months from the date of the drug test.
All individuals involved in the provision of child care services on a Department of Navy (DON) installation or in a DON-sanctioned program must complete the Installation Records Check (IRC). The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05 Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.
