Intern - Civil/Construction Engineering

SUMMARY OF POSITION Engineering Intern duties include but are not limited to assisting with various engineering tasks and assignments such as preparing for and conducting field inspections, data reduction, reporting, engineering analyses, and design. Work is performed under the direction of a Project Engineer or higher who makes assignments, provides guidance, and reviews work to ensure that it is completed according to instructions and in accordance with accepted principles and practices of civil engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Perform inspections under the direction of higher-level engineers.

Prepare reports, studies, and related documents.

Participate in technical review meetings with engineering and planning staff.

Review engineering plans, reports, studies, and related documents.

YOU WILL NEED Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in the English language.

Ability to define problems, collect/interpret data, evaluate facts, draw valid conclusions, and effectively communicate findings/results.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Higher-level mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and calculus, and its application to surveying and engineering computations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possess knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the field of engineering and the ability to keep current with new developments.

Possess knowledge of construction practices (concrete, steel, carpentry, welding, etc.).

Proficient in technical writing.

Proficient in basic computer functions (Microsoft Office, etc.).

Current medical certifications including bloodborne pathogens, first aid, CPR, and emergency oxygen administration if performing fieldwork.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Curriculum focus in structural or geotechnical engineering

Engineering software experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & SAFETY The duties of this position require the intern to regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. While in the field, the intern may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time. COMPENSATION The hourly pay range for positions in Utahis $23 to $25, depending on education and relevant experience.
