Green River Police Department Officer

The Green River Police Department, located in Green River, Wyoming, is accepting applications for both entry level patrol officers and experienced lateral hires. The department is composed of exemplary officers, administrators and administrative staff who are dedicated to serving the citizens not only by maintaining law and order within the city limits, but also educating our citizens in partnerships with community organizations and the local school district. certification will be sent to the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, WY, in order to obtain this certification allowing them to become a sworn GRPD officer. During this time, new hire are permitted to use a marked patrol car, provided with room and board, and paid their regular wages & benefits.

The Police Officer reports to a Police Sergeant (and, indirectly, to a Police Captain). This position may exercise technical and functional supervision over part-time staff.

Respond to radio and telephone dispatches and appear at scenes of disorder or crime; serve warrants and subpoenas; carry out crime prevention, DARE, Special Response Team, barricade and hostage situations, mounted and bicycle patrol, use of training in special equipment, or field and other training programs; Inspect establishments providing alcoholic beverages and entertainment; intervene in private or public disputes to protect the public and maintain order; perform initial and follow-up investigations of crimes involving adults and juveniles; investigate complaints; Continue to train in law enforcement areas and subjects. Appear in court as arresting officer; Assist the Fire and other departments. Modern police methods and procedures related to patrol, apprehension, arrest, search and seizure, traffic control, and investigation and identification techniques.

Law enforcement theory, principles and practices, and their application to a wide variety of services and programs.

Recent court decisions and how they affect department and division operations.

Functions and objectives of federal, state, and other local law enforcement agencies.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws a nd ordinances, particularly with reference to apprehension, arrest, search and seizure, evidence and records maintenance, and traffic control.

Operate firearms and other modern police equipment.

Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software.

Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.

Interpret and explain City and Department policies and procedures.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

A high school diploma, GED or High School Equivalency Certificate (HiSet), supplemented by specialized training in law enforcement is required. If selected following successful oral board interviews, must be able to pass the Police Officer Selection Test (POST).

Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age as established by the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy (WLEA).

exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites; availability for shift work.

Applicants who are offered employment are required to pass a comprehensive law enforcement background investigation (including DCI/FBI fingerprint check), job-related physical exam, drug screening test and driver's license check.
