Part Time Primary Care Clinic Registered Nurse

Pediatric Primary Care at MGH Boston and the Charlestown Health Center is seeking a nurse to work at both locations.

• Although this is an Ambulatory position, In-Patient RNs are strongly urged to apply
• The current opening is a permanent, benefitted position offering 26 hours per week. The schedule consists primarily of two 8-hour shifts and one 10-hour shift split between our two sites at our Charlestown Health Center Pediatric Primary Care Clinic and at our Pediatric Primary Care at 165 Cambridge Street, Boston (2 blocks from MGH). It also includes a weekend/holiday rotation in pediatric urgent care at 165 Cambridge Street, Boston.

This position requires location flexibility, as floating between 165 Cambridge Street and the Charlestown Health Center is part of the role.

The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for pediatric patients and their families in the ambulatory care setting.

They collaborate with practice leadership, members of the patient care team, and the patient to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Provides competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of nursing process.

• Articulates the professional nursing role to the patient, family and health team members.
• Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to / from other patient care team members.
• Coordinates involvement of the patient, family and health team members in patient care plan including patient and family teaching.
• Provides nursing care appropriate to age group of patients.
• Observes, reports, and documents relevant patient information.
• Identifies, facilitates, and evaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients.
• Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.
• Collaborates with other professional and non-professional personnel in maintaining recognized standards.
• Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.
• Teaches and directs nursing and other clinical support staff for whom she / he is responsible.
• Appropriately utilizes nursing resources.
• Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members.
• Appropriately utilizes equipment and supplies.
• Participates in practice and other committees for formulation of nursing, practice and hospital policies and procedures.
• Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education practice.
• Collaborates with practice leadership to identify his / her developmental level of practice and appropriate learning experiences to enhance development.
• Adheres to Department of Nursing requirements for training as specified in the MGH Nursing Practice Manual.
• Contributes to relevant committees, professional meetings, continuing educational and / or formal academic programs.
• Our Pediatric Primary Care Dept has two locations. One at Main campus MGH and one at the Charlestown Health Center. Ability to work at both sites is required. Occasional weekend and holiday rotation for Pedi Urgent Care clinic. Medical, Dental and Vision insurance

Does this position require Patient Care?

Administer medications/vaccinations to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.

• Record patients' medical information and vital signs during both in person visits as well as in depth telephone triage
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Bachelor's degree Nursing required

Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required

Experience Pediatric nursing experience preferred.

Ambulatory Experience preferred

Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
