Cristo Rey San Diego High School is the 37th school in a growing national network of Catholic high schools recognized for transforming Catholic education through a unique integration of rigorous academics, professional experience, and spiritual formation. While many of our students will enter high school below grade‑level academically, it is the collective mission of our staff to ensure that our students gain admission to—and ultimately graduate from—college. Teaching Responsibilities

Execute rigorous, standards‑driven, high‑impact, culturally relevant lessons through effective teaching practices that accelerate student content growth as well as faith and character development.

Use formative and summative assessments of and response to student proficiency of grade level content.

Provide frequent opportunities for students to read, write, speak and collaborate with peers to demonstrate understanding of new content.

Support multilingual learners through frequent opportunities to read, write, speak about and listen to challenging texts that encourage collaboration.

Regularly collect and analyze data to inform and adjust instruction

Provide targeted one‑on‑one and small‑group tutoring to students in class, during after‑school learning support, and via other instructional support opportunities

Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, frequently updating the gradebook in accordance with our communities grading policies

Forge strong relationships with students and parents and communicate frequently with families to increase the investment and partnership that will enable students to flourish

Consistently uphold school‑wide discipline practices and routines as well as norms for student behavior

Prioritize and manage your time effectively to create a healthy work/life balance while also actively engaging in the non‑student facing responsibilities present in a school with a culture of continuous learning

Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school and share best practices

Model values consistent with Catholic education and service to others

Approach teaching through a developmental lens, and enthusiastically participate in professional development; Contribute fully, intentionally, and constructively to the professional learning community in a range of ways: analyze student work and performance data, identify students in need of additional support, problem‑solve unanticipated challenges that arise within the school

Student Support and Contribution to School

Specific Obligations of a Cristo Rey San Diego High School Teacher

A full‑time teaching position is defined as being responsible for a homeroom period, five instructional periods or its equivalent, two preparation periods, a lunch period, academic interventions (Advisory/What I Need (WIN)/after school tutoring), and other duties, including the attendance of professional learning team meetings to support the academic growth of students.

Perform as a substitute teacher as needed. After substitute teaching 12 class periods (not including Homeroom, Advisory, or Finals proctoring), an additional $25/per class period will be paid.

Participate in Cristo Rey Network workshops and teacher training as available and/or needed

Comply with specific supervision, coaching, evaluation, and in‑service programs provided by CRSDHS which are focused on supporting the teacher in their professional development and improving student outcomes

General Administrative/ Other Responsibilities

Possess a Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in the field of instruction

Possess a cleared California Teaching Credential (preferred)

Record of strong student achievement as a middle school or high school teacher (preferred)

Proficiency using technology to advance teaching and learning

Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial school environment

A belief that all students can and will succeed in college and career

Experience working with English learners is a plus

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Religious Qualifications

Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)

Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.

The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work‑related events.
