Summer Camp Lifeguards (Seasonal Positions)

Lifeguard Position
This is a seasonal role from June - August and supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The lifeguard oversees all waterfront activities including general water safety, swim tests, swim lessons, free swim, and boating. Engage campers, foster character development, and promote healthy lifestyles. Provide oversight during activity times and as needed.
Essential Functions

Supervise all aquatic activities including swim evaluations, swim lessons, free swim, and boating for campers entering grades K 9th both at the camp waterfront and on offsite programs as needed.
Maintain strict safety protocol for all aquatics programs according to Camp Lincoln's policies and industry standards.
Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces waterfront rules and water safety policies.
Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning.
Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
Inspects waterfront, dock, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
Fill out required check lists.
Lifeguard certification required. Certification is provided to successful candidates.
Must attend all scheduled Lifeguard In-Service Trainings.
Attend required abuse risk management training.
Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising campers.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old.
Prior experience working with children preferred.
Patient and reliable.
Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.
Organizational and communication skills.
Positive personality.
Must be able to complete YMCA required training as scheduled by management.
Must maintain updated certifications of the job (CPR and First Aid/AED).
Must successfully clear FBI and state criminal background checks.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
Previous lifeguarding experience preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to push, pull, bend and kneel regularly.
Ability to travel and work multiple days/weeks at a time.
Ability to work outdoors for entire shift, regardless of weather.
