The Mechanical and Reliability Department provides innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems. Areas of expertise include ground, airborne and shipboard systems. Engineers from the group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, fabrication, and environmental testing. We provide technical guidance through rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods with data driven products to enhance decision making and risk management.MITRE's Mechanical and Reliability Department is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform mechanical and environmental analyses for ground, airborne and shipboard systems.Contribute to the design, development and maturation of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept through prototype and transition.Perform design reviews, tolerance stack-up analysis, and risk assessments related to manufacturing and assembly.Drive design for manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturability improvements to enable efficient prototype and low-rate production builds.Apply knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, CNC fabrication, composites, and production-oriented fabrication techniques to prototype development to inform sponsor decisions on low-rate initial production capabilities and capacity.Work with cross-functional technical teams comprised of both in-house and sponsor personnel.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 5 years of related industry experienceExperience using computer aided design (CAD) software and generating and interpreting mechanical drawingsExperience conducting engineering analyses in the areas of structures, aero/fluid dynamics, vibration and thermodynamics, including the application of Finite Element Analysis techniquesKnowledge of traditional and advanced manufacturing processes, tolerancing, material selection, production floor layouts, and design-based quality metricsAbility to scope and perform mechanical engineering tasks autonomouslyAbility to obtain DoD Secret ClearancePer the U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.S. and/or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with industry experienceExperience working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and demonstrated effectiveness of written and verbal communication skillsExperience with SolidWorks CAD toolsExperience with ANSYS (e.g. Workbench, APDL, Mechanical, LS-Dyna, CFX, Fluent, Icepak)High-level computational skills in large scale simulations, data analysis, and programmingExperience interfacing with manufacturing engineers in low and high-rate production environmentsDemonstrated ability to lead independent research tasks.
