Buyer - Manufacturing and Supply Chain Purchasing
Mujin US
Mujin is the future of industrial robotic systems in production and distribution environments. Our technology gives robots perception and awareness, enabling them to take on more advanced tasks. We aim to revolutionize the use of robotics within industry to free human resources from labor‑intensive tasks to focus on more intellectual challenges.
As a Project Buyer, you will support the execution of our automation projects by owning project supply readiness and supplier‑side project execution. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to understand project BOMs, confirm BOM completeness, identify long‑lead or high‑risk items, develop purchase request packages, coordinate supplier commitments, and keep project supply activities aligned with project milestones.
This is a hands‑on project buying role for someone with direct experience in automation, material handling, system integration, robotics, industrial equipment, or a similar technical project environment. The ideal candidate understands what needs to be purchased, why it matters to the project, which suppliers and subcontractors are involved, when each item or service is needed, and how supplier delays or scope gaps may impact project execution. Strategic Project Sourcing & Supplier Ecosystem
Lead the supply‑side review of project BOMs, project scope, technical purchasing requirements, and project timing in coordination with Project Execution and Engineering.
Proactively obtain the most complete available project BOM, confirm BOM completeness with Project Execution, Engineering, Solution Engineering, and other relevant stakeholders, and drive follow‑up on missing, incomplete, unclear, or evolving BOM items.
Establish a BOM‑based project supply baseline, including ordered items, unordered items, items requiring clarification, supplier options, required delivery timing, and known project supply risks.
Identify long‑lead, high‑risk, custom, or supplier‑sensitive items early in the project lifecycle and understand how each item or service supports the overall automation solution.
Identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers and service providers used in warehouse automation, material handling, robotics, industrial automation, and related project‑based technical scope.
Work with suppliers and service providers across categories including, but not limited to, conveyors, robotics, robot accessories, controls, electrical components, panels, sensors, vision systems, cameras, EOAT (End‑of‑Arm Tooling) / grippers, safety components, fabricated parts, installation services, field service providers, and related project scope.
Lead supplier evaluation, quote comparison, delivery feasibility validation, and supplier readiness review, and provide supplier recommendations based on technical fit, responsiveness, quality, cost, timing, execution risk, and project requirements.
Build practical relationships with domestic and international suppliers, negotiate project‑specific pricing, lead times, delivery commitments, commercial terms, and recovery options, and support review of supplier documents such as quotes, statements of work, NDAs, purchase terms, and subcontractor documentation with relevant internal stakeholders as needed.
Project Purchase Request Preparation
Translate confirmed project BOMs, supplier plans, quotes, delivery requirements, and project milestone needs into purchase request packages.
Prepare purchase request packages that include supplier recommendation, quote basis, required delivery timing, lead‑time assumptions, delivery location, project milestone impact, subcontracted scope, installation labor needs, known supplier risks, and open items requiring internal clarification.
Drive resolution of missing technical, commercial, supplier, or timing information before handoff to the internal procurement execution owner for controlled PO processing.
Supplier‑Side Execution & Risk Visibility
Manage supplier‑side execution risks after project supply needs are defined, including supplier commitments, milestone risks, open supplier actions, and recovery options.
Track supplier commitments against project milestones and communicate delivery risks before they become project delays.
Follow up directly with suppliers on availability, lead times, delivery timing, technical scope, open issues, missing documentation, and project‑critical readiness.
Maintain BOM‑line‑level project supply visibility and project supply hot lists for assigned projects, including ordered items, unordered items, reason for unordered status, pending actions, supplier status, expected timing, delivery risks, milestone impact, required internal follow‑up, and recovery status, so Project Execution remains aligned on procurement readiness and project supply risk.
Escalate supplier‑side project risks and coordinate recovery actions, including alternate suppliers, partial shipments, expediting, resequencing, RMAs, replacements, credits, scope clarification, BOM revisions, engineering changes, or scope updates that may affect project supply readiness.
Follow through on project‑critical materials, equipment, or services after delivery to confirm they do not create unresolved project execution risk.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (including Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related disciplines), Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the following.
Hands‑on project buying, project procurement, supply chain coordination, sourcing, or purchasing in a project‑based industrial environment, with direct experience in warehouse automation, material handling, system integration, robotics, manufacturing equipment, industrial automation, or a closely related industry.
Experience working with project BOMs, technical purchasing requirements, supplier lead times, custom parts, equipment, subcontracted scope, or installation labor.
Ability to translate project BOMs, supplier quotes, delivery requirements, and project milestone needs into purchase request packages.
Strong supplier feasibility review, quote comparison, supplier commitment tracking, expediting, issue resolution, escalation, relationship‑building, and negotiation skills.
Strong project supply visibility discipline, including supplier commitment logs, project supply hot lists, milestone‑risk updates, and open supplier‑side issue tracking.
Ability to communicate clearly and work closely with relevant internal stakeholders and suppliers in a fast‑changing project environment.
Experience in hands‑on project buying or project supply chain within a material handling system integrator, warehouse automation integrator, robotics integrator, industrial equipment manufacturer, or related automation project environment.
Previous experience working as a Robotics Integration Engineer, including integration, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems in manufacturing, automation, or industrial environments.
Established working familiarity with automation / material handling suppliers, subcontractors, installation partners, field service providers, and components such as conveyors, robotics, controls, sensors, vision systems, EOAT (End‑of‑Arm Tooling) / grippers, safety systems, fabricated parts, and related project scope.
Experience creating project supply plans, supplier trackers, long‑lead item trackers, hot lists, or supplier readiness reports.
Experience supporting customer‑site project execution, installation readiness, commissioning support, field service coordination, or supplier document review, including quotes, statements of work, NDAs, purchase terms, or subcontractor documentation.
Travel Requirement: Less than 25% domestically and internationally.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
