ATTORNEY - TAX LAW

A highly respected Asheville-based law firm with an established estate planning, elder law, and wealth preservation practice is seeking an experienced attorney with a sophisticated tax or private wealth planning background to join its team. The firm is not seeking a general estate planner or traditional elder law attorney. Instead, they are looking for an attorney who can advise high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, and closely held companies on complex planning matters involving estate, income, gift, and corporate tax strategies.
This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys solving sophisticated planning issues, structuring tax-efficient strategies, and serving as a key technical resource within a growing private client practice.
The Opportunity You will work alongside an established team with a substantial client base, helping deepen the firm's capabilities in advanced tax-driven planning. This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to be the go-to advisor on complex planning matters while also maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities Design and implement sophisticated estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning strategies
Advise high-net-worth clients on income tax, corporate tax, and wealth transfer planning matters
Structure planning for business owners, family businesses, and closely held entities
Counsel clients on trusts, business succession, charitable planning, and asset preservation strategies
Review and optimize existing estate plans from a tax-efficiency perspective
Collaborate with attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, and fiduciaries on integrated planning solutions
Serve as an internal resource on evolving tax code developments and advanced planning opportunities
Desired Background Significant experience in estate planning with substantial tax planning depth
Strong working knowledge of federal tax code as it relates to estate, gift, income, and business planning
Background representing high-net-worth individuals, business owners, or private wealth clients
Experience with sophisticated trust structures, entity planning, and wealth transfer strategies
LL.M. in Taxation and/or CPA strongly valued, though not required for candidates with exceptional practical experience
Strong drafting, analytical, and client advisory skills
Ideal Candidate Technical, strategic, and solutions-oriented
Comfortable handling sophisticated planning matters independently
Strong communicator who can simplify complex tax concepts for clients
Interested in becoming a key contributor within a premier Western North Carolina practice
