Gastroenterology - Full Time Physician

Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (1 to 5 years). Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Alternatively, one year of post‑medical school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice in the United States.

Alternatively, non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, performing duties related to the position applied for.

Residents currently enrolled in an accredited residency are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions.

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis. They are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Specialized and/or preferred experience: None beyond minimum qualifications.

Physical requirements: Light lifting under 15 lbs, light carrying under 15 lbs, use of fingers, both hands required, walking and standing 8 hours, both legs required, both eyes required, depth perception required.

Duties

Provide comprehensive medical and selected specialty services for outpatients in the Gastroenterology Clinic five days per week, including patient examinations, education, and triaging.

Diagnose, treat, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques in Gastroenterology.

Perform inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology consultations.

Perform GI procedures, including upper endoscopy and colonoscopies with related interventions (dilatation, sclerotherapy, injection or thermal hemostasis, foreign body removal, mucosal biopsy, polypectomy, percutaneous gastrostomy/jejunostomy).

Perform flexible sigmoidoscopy and proctoscopy with mucosal biopsy.

Insert esophageal stents.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (subject to change based on facility needs).

Salary: Competitive base salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.

Paid time off: 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, possible 5 days for CME).

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and a 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution.

Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory required.

No physician employment contract beyond a service agreement; moonlighting is unrestricted except for significant restrictions.
