Class Title: B.School Nurse Substitute

Building Administrator

Under general direction of the assigned building administrator, provides nursing skills and knowledge in the school environment to promote maximum health and facilitate the learning, social adjustment, and the emotional and physical well-being of students.
Assesses the physical, mental and environmental health of students; appraises health needs as they

relate to the educational environment and cultural background in accordance with state and local

Recommends modification of school programs in accordance with the special needs of students.

Analyzes and discusses effect of student's health on educational progress with parents, school

personnel and community resources.

Coordinates and collaborates with school staff to identify and report suspected cases of child abuse.

Serves as liaison between the education and health communities by providing health counseling and

guidance to students, staff and parents and by initiating necessary follow-up visits with private or

community resources.

Contributes to planning of health education curriculum to meet the needs of all children, including the

exceptional child and to integrate heal concepts into the total curriculum.

Participates in planning objectives, standards, implementation and evaluation of school health programs

Assists the administrator in planning for the control of communicable diseases, first aid in acute illness

or injury and for safety and sanitation in the school.

Utilizes student contacts to teach positive health concepts and attitudes.

Participates in professional organizations and training programs to maintain current skills. training for health paraeducators, volunteers and students in selected health services.

Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field.

Experience working with school age children in a health office or school setting.

Washington State ESA Certification with a School Nurse endorsement
Knowledge of principals of nursing, medical terminology, aseptic/sterile techniques and infectious

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with students, parents, staff, administration,

health issues.

Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

Ability to use instructional skills and principles of learning when presenting educational materials to

First aid and CPR Card.
Master's degree in pediatric nursing or related field.
and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. Substitute - on call, no guarantee of work or hours

This Substitute position is screened and hired by the Substitute Services Office in collaboration with the Special Eduation Department.

Once applicant completes the steps listed above, an in-person Substitute New Hire Orientation will be scheduled.
Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.
