Executive Director of Special Education
Minimum 3 years' experience in working with students with emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.

Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans.

Knowledgeable about the IDEA and the laws that govern working with students with disabilities.

ability to writing detailed reports and documentation regarding student progress and needs.

Demonstrated commitment to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.

Certification, Licensure, Training:

Applicants must complete all requirements of this job as stated with the regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education ( and policies of the Oak Park & River Forest School District 200 Board of Education.

The employee in this position must provide innovative teaching in working with students that demonstrate academic needs that impacts their ability to access the curriculum without support. The candidate must have experience in managing a caseload as well as developing and monitoring IEP progress. This program is currently seeking highly skilled teachers that ensure the curriculum remains rigorous and meets with all expectations for graduation requirements.

Prepare materials and plan daily instruction appropriate to each assigned class.

Establish reasonable expectations and keep detailed records for oral and written work and explain grading procedures.

Maintain desirable discipline standards in the classroom and assist, when needed, in other school areas with student disciplinary management.

Establish and post a schedule of times for helping students who need individual assistance.

Develop and administer appropriate tests and report performance to parents, dean/counselors, and students.

Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, and Support Team in understanding the needs of students and counseling students. Effectively supervise and include paraprofessionals in supporting the academic and social emotional needs of students.

Be sensitive to physical and learning styles of students with respect to their identified disabilities.

Work with the Executive Director of Special Education and other staff members in curriculum development.

Physical/visual/cognitive requirements:

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, manual dexterity, talking, hearing and near visual acuity required. Analytical skills to assess and evaluate student needs, learning styles, and progress and to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) based on student assessments. Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs. Ability to make informed decisions regarding curriculum adjustments and teaching approaches. Substitute teachers/student teachers/tutors/student workers/coaches must complete the external applicant online application.
