Seasonal Senior Counselor

Title: SENIOR EOF COUNSELOR

The Academic Foundations Center (AFC) provides academic opportunities, resources, leadership development and other support initiatives for first‑generation, low‑income college‑bound scholars. As the first Rutgers‑Newark special program to identify talent beyond traditional measures, AFC serves nearly 1,500 undergraduate students annually, recruiting, retaining and graduating talented young people from the greater Newark area.

This position is contingent upon continuation of grant funding.

Assist the programmatic development and implementation of the EOF Program and assure successful levels of academic achievement and graduation for an assigned caseload of Rutgers University‑Newark undergraduate students.

Provide orientation to the campus culture as well as academic, career, financial aid, and personal counseling.

Serve as a liaison and maintain contact with faculty, school academic advisors, residence life, student life, financial aid, student accounting, registrar’s office, admissions office, the Learning Resource and Writing Centers, and other internal and external special programs.

Develop, initiate, and administer special projects and services for the summer program’s academic component and specified EOF populations to promote leadership, holistic growth, and achievement.

Conduct outreach on behalf of EOF students with outside community constituents, agencies, and schools.

Teach a credit‑bearing course during the summer bridge program and during the academic year that focuses on strategies for academic success.

Masters degree, preferably in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.

Expert knowledge of non‑traditional college students and experience implementing academic and affective support.

Experience developing and conducting academic support workshops and strong writing, analytical, and presentation skills.

Consistent with Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement under a pilot program effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024.
