Shift:

Works every other weekend, 36 hours each week, 11am- 11pm.

Singing River Ocean Springs Hospital

The Phlebotomist ensures that appropriate specimens are collected from the proper patients, as well as work and communicate effectively with a variety of patients, including but not limited to, critically ill, trauma, newborn, geriatric, and outpatients in numerous outpatient settings. The Phlebotomist provides accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, preservation, transportation and pre-test processing. He/She performs clerical duties; performs computer functions; Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

High School graduate or equivalent required; some college with courses in a health or science-related field preferred. Training in computer, basic office equipment and medical terminology preferred.

If certified, a current Phlebotomy certification from an approved agency is preferred. ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification)

• Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.

One (1) year Phlebotomy experience preferred. Must have equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which documented comparable knowledge, skills and demonstrated abilities.

Lab Supervisors, Lab Operation Manager and Lab Director or Service Line Patient Care Coordinator

Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.

Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may occur according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.).
