What You Will Do As a Host

Greet every guest in a friendly manner as they enter the restaurant

Check the host podium for complete setup of materials and supplies at the start and end of the shift

Clean menu covers, replace old or worn menus, and distribute them to bars and dining rooms

Assist servers with duties such as resetting tables or fulfilling guest requests

Answer the phone promptly with a friendly and cordial greeting

Communicate with customers and vendors, relay incoming calls to the appropriate people, and take messages

Actively listen patiently and politely to customer inquiries and complaints, providing specific and accurate information about the restaurant operation, directions to the restaurant, and menu information

Direct customer complaints and other problematical calls to the appropriate people; answer inquiries about reservations, review reservations, review reservation book, and inform customers about seating availability and accurately record reservations

Prepare menus and reservations for the arrangement of tables and chairs for large parties

Assist and direct personnel in the arrangement of tables and chairs for large parties

Bid all departing parties a closing salutation and “Thank You”

Check back at tables to ensure customer satisfaction and to work on customer relations
