The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. This position is located at Central Prison, which is a close-custody prison housing male offenders. Central Prison Healthcare Complex serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1318 offenders.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide professional nursing care/treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols in a supervisory capacity. Employees in this role are responsible for managing and supervising daily nursing care on an assigned shift or assigned area, or in a preceptor role, coordinating all licensed and non-licensed staff.
Providing patient care and education to offenders in a state correctional facility.
Position requires sick call assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy sticks, transcribing MD/PA orders, patient education, thorough medical documentation, monitoring/treatment of communicable diseases, and responding to emergencies.
This position may be required to work any shift, based on the institution's current needs, including weekends and holidays, with limited clinical supervision.
Charge Nurse - NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $7,500 SIGN-ON BONUS.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques, including physical assessments, clinical judgments, treatment planning, and evaluation.

12-hour shifts, Rotate 36/48 - Night Shift
