Buyer @ Purchasing Department

The City of Anaheim Purchasing Department is seeking a Buyer I/II .

The Purchasing Department oversees the acquisition of all materials, capital equipment, operating supplies, and contracted services for the City. Buyers perform a variety of professional level duties involved in the cost effective procurement of quality services, equipment, and supplies as required and requisitioned by City departments.

Purchasing experience in a public sector environment is desirable.

Purchasing experience for a full service city to include public utilities, police, fire is desirable.

Certifications for a Certified Professional Public Buyer or Certified Procurement Professional is highly desirable.

Two years of responsible professional buying and purchasing experience supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in purchasing, materials management, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field. One year of responsible professional buying and purchasing experience supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in purchasing, materials management, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Basic operations, services, and activities of a purchasing program; modern and complex principles, procedures, methods and legal requirements of purchasing; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

Review purchase requisitions and effectively purchase a variety of supplies, equipment, and services; interpret and explain City purchasing policies and procedures; evaluate specifications prepared by departments for accuracy and appropriate content; operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; work independently in the absence of supervision; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Environmental Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with some travel to different sites.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and to conduct site visits and job inspections; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
