Description
The purpose of this position is to supervise the activities and personnel of the Detention Center performing the intaking, booking, and providing supplies to prisoners; answering telephones and routing calls; assisting the public, visitors, and prisoners with questions or problems; and monitoring all activities of prisoners. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Intakes and books prisoners into jail, which involves completing required paperwork, obtaining photographs and fingerprints, collecting biographical information and change of information, etc.
Acts as desk officer which includes meeting public, answering telephones, taking messages, routing calls, providing assistance in regard to warrants, taking written reports, etc.
Checks, enters, and maintains warrants.
Monitors fire alarm in jail.
Inputs various information into records managements system such as booking information, citations, and new and used served warrants.
Handles the responsibility for fingerprinting all non-arrest citizens for required jobs. Compiles statistical data for management when requested.
Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits a variety of reports and documents including booking sheets, medical forms, fingerprint cards, statements, commitment papers, warrants, tickets, dockets, various lists and logs, and general office correspondence.
Promotes safety and security of inmate population.
Provides escorts for arraignments.
Work metal detector for court.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes, laws, regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc.
Additional Duties:
Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.
Continually stays up to date on all policy, procedure, and/or process changes.
Completes all work accurately, safely, and efficiently.
Keeps work area clean and safe.
Maintains any assigned equipment in safe and good operating condition.
Reports to Supervisor any suggested improvements or areas of concern.
Ensures professionalism and exceptional customer service during all interactions while performing job representing the City of Greer.
Exhibits strong ethical standards; ability to create trust and integrity with co-workers, customers, and community.
Adheres to Employee Handbook and other relevant policies and procedures.
Maintains regular and sustained attendance.
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Hours:
Varying shifts, up to 12 hour per shift. Training will take place from either 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM
Salary:
Minimum $26.81 hourly; ($53,673.62 annually) dependent on experience.

Requirements
Education, Skills and Experience Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Basic computer skills.
Must be able to successfully complete a three-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia which includes a physical fitness test and must be completed within one year of hire date.
Must be able to qualify with department issued firearm
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Education, Skills and Experience Preferred:
Associates Degree
Certification from the Criminal Justice Academy and Transport Certification from Greenville County
