Assistant Dean of Budget and Operations (WSAS)

The Assistant Dean for Budget and Operations serves as the chief administrative and financial officer of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences (WSAS). Reporting directly to the Dean, the Assistant Dean provides strategic leadership in fiscal planning, resource allocation, human resources coordination, facilities oversight, and overall operational effectiveness. This role ensures that Weissman’s diverse portfolio of academic departments, centers, and programs operates efficiently, transparently, and in alignment with priorities set by CUNY, Baruch College, and the School. The Assistant Dean plays a critical role in supporting the School’s daily operations and fostering an exceptional environment for teaching, learning, and scholarship. The Assistant Dean leads a dedicated operations team that includes three administrative coordinators supporting faculty personnel and financial processes, as well as a Technology Manager and a CUNY Office Assistant.
Financial Leadership & Budget Stewardship
Lead annual and multi-year budget planning for WSAS, including departmental operating budgets, adjunct budgets, grant-supported lines, and special initiatives.
Monitor expenditures, analyze variances, provide budget forecasts, and develop financial models to support strategic decision-making.
Ensure fiscal compliance across all funding sources in accordance with CUNY and Baruch College policies.
HR, Staffing, & Personnel Operations
Coordinate workflow for all personnel actions involving HR, including VRB requests, search waivers, ECP submissions, and HEO/HEO-series recruitments.
Develop and maintain School-level organizational charts; advise the Dean on position restructuring or realignment.
Serve as the School’s primary liaison with Campus HR, Diversity/Compliance (ODCEI), and Budget Office for approvals, timelines, and compliance requirements.
Operational Oversight & School Technology and Infrastructure
Oversee day-to-day operational functions of the School, ensuring efficient administrative workflows across departments and programs.
Coordinate facilities-related matters with Campus Facilities & Operations.
Oversee technology staff to ensure effective management of all technology initiatives, equipment, and business-technology inventories, including timely maintenance, replacements, and installations.
Lead special projects, including renovations, faculty upgrades, and technology improvements
Oversee technology and equipment purchases in coordination with the Technology Manager and BCTC
Partner with the Dean on School-level strategic planning, operational components of academic initiatives, and multi-year enrollment planning.
Analyze data and prepare reports that inform resource allocation and long-term planning.
Compliance, Policy, & Accreditation Support
Ensure adherence to CUNY, Baruch, and State policies related to budgeting, staffing, procurement, and campus operations.
Maintain documentation needed for audits, accreditation, and academic program reviews, working with departments that regularly undergo review cycles.
Cross-Campus and External Partnerships
Represent the Weissman School in campus committees related to operations, budget, space, and administrative modernization.
Build collaborative relationships with central offices, including HR, Budget, Facilities, ODCEI, Registrar, and IT.

commensurate with education and experience
All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, higher-education administration, finance, or related discipline.
Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, operations, or academic administration.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and administrative processes in a large organization.
Experience working within CUNY or a similarly structured public higher-education system.
Strong analytical and communications skills, with the ability to interpret policy and implement operational improvements.
