It is a department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for patient care, medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital and, as such, has a broad range of activities including administration of the OR; adequacy of surgical beds; and credentialing of hospital surgical staff.The department includes full-time faculty members in the sections of: general & bariatric surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery, trauma & acute care surgery. The department faculty provide surgical care to the people of eastern North Carolina, including pre-operative and post-operative care. The department provides surgical education to medical students and residents every day of the year. The department also has a vibrant research program including funded grants and clinical trials. The employees in the department support the clinical, education and research work of the department. Job Duties ECU Health Physicians and East Carolina University’s Department of Surgery, located in Greenville, North Carolina, are seeking a General Surgeon with advanced training and expertise in Hernia and Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction to join the Division of General and Specialty Surgery. Fixed term or tenure track faculty position is available.The Department of Surgery has a general surgery residency program with six categorical residents in each year who are competitively prepared for fellowships, academic positions, and direct entry into private practice.
