Performs all duties and responsibilities for the assigned shift. Documents all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record after completing service. Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understanding the purpose and possible side effects of each. Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen delivery methods and equipment, remaining alert to possible side effects. Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures. Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators, including airway management and tracheal suctioning. Performs arterial punctures to obtain blood samples for gas analysis, understanding complications and contraindications. Assesses patient needs and tolerance for treatment, reassessing responses to therapy. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly, inspecting and testing to ensure functionality. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology [Required]

Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing and typing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements [Required]

Experience with computers [Required]

Ability to ensure infection control [Required]

Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record (EMR), and ability to use and adapt to computer systems and applications [Required]

Ability to provide optimal respiratory support including administration of oxygen and Heliox, administration of inhaled medications, lung expansion, and bronchial hygiene therapy [Required]

Ability to appropriately initiate, operate, manage, and liberate non-invasive and invasive modes of mechanical ventilation [Required]

Ability to perform ABG Puncture, analysis, arterial cannulation using sterile procedure, and hemodynamic monitoring [Required]

Knowledge and skill to care for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in a health care delivery system [Required]

Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) [Preferred]

Education Associate’s in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science [Required]

Work Experience 1+ years experience as a respiratory therapist [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) [Required]

OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Required]
