Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver.
The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients using the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution.
Essential Functions:
The RN performs all responsibilities and duties specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains accurate documentation of nursing care provided, ensuring integration of information for the healthcare team.
The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission.
The RN develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
The RN modifies plans of care based on continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards and incidents.
The RN communicates directly with others to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes the initiative to find solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
Department Specific Job Functions:
The RN assesses orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift.
The RN educates patients on wound care, proper mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transition needs.
The RN coordinates with physician partners on the care of orthopedic and medical/surgical patients.
The RN delegates and monitors interventions of the healthcare team staff.
The RN sets up orthopedic traction and manipulates surgical traction devices.
