Principal, Engineering Services

Directs and manages a team involved in the design and construction of transmission, distribution, operation, and maintenance activities; manages, trains, and directs engineers and technical personnel and provides administrative support to management; manages an engineering and technical team that works on specific engineering projects from inception through completion; and is responsible for the execution of goals, programs, and projects within an engineering functional unit or section.

Administers contracts for wide array of projects, professional services, outside services, materials, and equipment.

Holds employees accountable to complete all projects in a timely and professional manner, while promoting a safe working environment.

Responsible for capital project development and 20‑year capital planning for areas of the department.

Responsible for technical review of design and work product to ensure compliance with codes, rules and regulations, policies, and standards for all work completed.

Handles employee‑related matters such as performance appraisals, technical career development, mentoring, approving absences, on‑the‑job training, and counseling.

Recommends necessary changes in company engineering and construction standards.

Responsible for area development of long‑range distribution, sub‑transmission, transmission, and generation planning.

Determines engineering criteria for service to customers and users.

Represents the company as an expert witness on electric system matters in regulatory and other administrative proceedings.

Ensures the proper execution of training, performance appraisals, counseling, discipline, and EEO compliance.

Supports growth of the company’s revenue by working with various economic development organizations to attract business and industry to the service territory.

Broad knowledge of engineering precedents in specialty area and in related specialty areas.

Ability to manage projects on time and within budget.

Knowledge of construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution and/or power generation systems.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with seven to nine years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

Ability to read, comprehend, write and present complex instructions, correspondence, memos, and to respond to questions from customers, clients, management, and other employees.

Computer skills: Working knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Analysis and problem‑solving ability: Office, field, construction environment. Employees may be responsible for providing services to various holding company subsidiaries and affiliates.
