A typical day for a Respiratory Therapist may include:

Assessing patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, evaluating clinical status, and recommending appropriate therapeutic interventions

Administering respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilation management

Monitoring patient response to treatment, recognizing changes in clinical condition, and communicating findings promptly to physicians and the care team

Performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas collection, pulmonary function testing, and bedside respiratory assessments as appropriate

Educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, equipment use, and strategies to support ongoing respiratory health

Accurately documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses within the electronic medical record to promote continuity of care

Collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans

Maintaining respiratory equipment, ensuring proper operation, and adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards

Pursuing continued professional growth through continuing education, specialty certifications, and organizational resources that support long-term career development

You hold an active New Jersey Respiratory Therapist License (RRT) or Certification (RCT) in good standing and
