Emergency Medical Tech - EMT - Full Time

Overview Periop Tech I (UH) – provide direct and indirect patient care in the perioperative area under the guidance of a registered nurse, in accordance with UMMC policy and nursing practice laws and regulations.

Responsibilities Assist with room turnovers, receptionist responsibilities, transporting patients, stocking, cleaning and maintaining supplies.

Care for equipment, patient positioning and patient prep as directed by the RN.

Assist with unit secretary duties, including telephone duties, appropriate message taking, and related tasks.

Handle highly-technical service-specific equipment (microscopes, lasers, video equipment) with understanding of operation, safety, cleaning and maintenance.

Assemble, clean and prepare or move equipment as directed.

Demonstrate understanding of specimen handling, including packaging, preservatives, tracking and regulatory compliance; Assist in room turnover and hazardous material disposal; Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

One (1) year of experience in a healthcare-related occupation preferred, or completion of the first semester of an RN/LPN program preferred.

Note: This is an entry-level position for training purposes.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registration N/A

Performs unit secretary duties and related tasks.

Understands principles of perioperative practice (aseptic technique, infection control, traffic patterns, patient safety) to assist the RN in patient care.

Understands National Patient Safety Goals related to patient identification when escorting or transporting patients and equipment.

Handles and maintains equipment, ensuring safety and proper function.

Assists with specimen handling, including packaging, preservatives, tracking and regulatory compliance.

Acts as liaison with hospital Biomedical Department.

Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent exposure to high-noise environments, temperature variations, and potentially dangerous equipment; frequent travel to offsite locations; Time Type & Compensation Time Type: Full time
