Carpenter/Construction Labor Foreman

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: General ForemanSupervise(s): Field Labor Force

SUMMARY:

Lead a positive working relationship with Mayo personnel, staff, patients, proponents, associates, architects, subcontractors, and city officials to support business growth. Has the ability to supervise, administer, and coordinate all field activities. Ensures that project work is completed on or ahead of schedule, on or under budget, and client and associated parties (i.e., proponents, Architect, engineers, etc.) are delighted with the final product.

This position is represented by North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, Area B - Southeastern Minnesota. Team members in this role work under a collective bargaining agreement that outlines wages, benefits, and working conditions. Union membership and dues will apply following hire, per the agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development

Maintain and/or build an effective relationship with Mayo Construction Managers and Project Managers, ensuring that communication is effective and meets Delighted Client Index (DCI) requirement.Communicate effectively and regularly with Weis Project Manager and General Foreman.

Preconstruction

Provides input and helps determine any required phasing and temporary walls/barriers.Assists with developing project schedules with Weis Project Manager.Attends pre-bid meetings and provides man-hour input to Estimator.

Safety

Monitors and maintains a project specific safety program including documenting and correcting unsafe work practices and work hazards. All on-site activities are carried out in accordance with Weis Builders safety and loss control/prevention activities, Mayo requirements, and applicable OSHA (state and Federal) regulations.Maintains a neat and orderly work site that protects the public and maintains infection control.Holds required safety meetings.Provides timely and accurate documentation and reporting of safety issues.

Operational Duties

Plan and supervise work of field associates, subcontractors, and vendorsincludes determining method of construction, staffing levels, material quantities, equipment, and work schedules.Prepares all reports, records, and forms as required.Monitor required submittals to ensure timely approvals and compliance.Track subcontractor time and material work as required.Resolves construction problems, lack of productivity complaints, and grievances within the workforce as required and with the necessary documentation.Participates in job progress meetings, weekly project team meetings, and client meetings.Prepares/obtains as-built drawings.Submits weekly timecards with required cost codes for all supervised field associates.

Coordinating/Scheduling Duties

Responsible for the project schedule to meet and beat client expectations.Prepare and attend schedule logic review meetings.Work with the project team to update and analyze the project schedule on an ongoing basis.Prepare three-week look-ahead schedules based on the overall job schedule.Schedule and coordinate all subcontractors and material suppliers.Monitor Subcontractor workforce to ensure the schedule is being met.

Quality Control Duties

Ensure all work is following specified quality standards and working hour restrictions.Conduct document reviews with subcontractors prior to work starting.Inspect subcontractors work for quality compliance.Inspect material for quality compliance.Coordinate testing agencies.Strive for zero punch list items.Adheres to Weis Builders Quality Assurance processes, procedures, and policies for all project work.Maintain a clean and organized jobsite office.Ensure all conduit, pipe and duct penetrations through fire rated assemblies are properly sealed and labeled.

Communication

Maintains clear communications on project status with Estimating, Operations, and Corporate as needed.Ensures work being completed is consistent with client expectations.Communicates major issues (accident, inspections, job site difficulties, etc.) with Weis Project Manager, General Foreman, and Group Vice President in a timely manner.

Management/Development

Provide leadership, development feedback, and mentorship to assigned associates.Foster an equitable and inclusive environment in the workplace.Maintains assigned tools and construction equipment in good working order.Identifies and implements cost and time saving measures.Keeps off-site storage unit neat and orderly.
