Job Title: Litigation Attorney (New York) – Contract-to-Hire (Remote-Focused) Location: Remote (U.S.-based), New York bar admission required
Engagement Type: 1-month contract with potential conversion to full-time hire

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney licensed in New York to support an active commercial dispute involving non-payment for delivered products/services. This is a high-priority, fast-moving matter requiring immediate legal support. The engagement begins as a 1-month contract focused on case stabilization, strategy, and early-stage litigation actions, with the potential to convert into a longer-term role depending on performance and ongoing needs.
The attorney will work in coordination with a Wyoming-based litigation counsel supporting parallel forensic investigation and evidence development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support litigation strategy for a commercial payment dispute matter
Conduct initial case assessment, legal risk analysis, and procedural planning
Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and related litigation documents
Engage directly with opposing counsel regarding dispute resolution and case posture
Collaborate with forensic investigation counsel in Wyoming to align legal strategy with evidentiary findings
Advise internal stakeholders on legal positioning, settlement options, and litigation risk
Support potential early resolution discussions, including demand letters and settlement negotiations
Ensure compliance with New York procedural rules and applicable federal/state court requirements
Engagement Structure
Phase 1 (First 30 Days – Contract Period): Immediate case intake and strategy development
Review of all existing contracts, communications, and evidence
Initiation of legal filings or pre-litigation actions as appropriate
Coordination with forensic investigation team
Phase 2 (Potential Conversion): Transition into ongoing counsel role depending on performance and case trajectory
Continued litigation management through resolution or trial, if necessary
Required Qualifications
- Active license to practice law in New York State
- 5+ years of litigation experience (commercial disputes strongly preferred)
- Strong experience with contract disputes and collections/payment litigation
- Ability to operate independently in fast-paced, high-urgency matters
- Experience managing discovery, pleadings, and motion practice
- Strong written advocacy and negotiation skills
- Comfort working remotely with distributed legal and investigative teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cross-jurisdictional matters (multi-state litigation coordination)
Familiarity with forensic accounting or investigative legal workflows
Prior work in commercial litigation involving product/service disputes
Trial experience (not required but beneficial)

This role is designed for a highly responsive litigation attorney who can step into an active matter quickly, stabilize legal positioning, and help drive toward resolution or escalation as needed. The case is already in motion, and speed, precision, and independent judgment are critical.
