Maintenance person Full Time

The St. Johns County Road & Bridge Division is responsible for the maintenance of St. Johns County roads, bridges, and drainage systems. This includes but is not limited to roadway and pothole patching, sidewalk construction and replacement, drainage pipe and structure cleaning and replacement, ditch excavating, tree trimming and removal, and roadside mowing.
Employees work cooperatively as part of maintenance crews to complete work in a safe and effective manner. Safety is the #1 priority at Road & Bridge. The division actively provides on-the-job training, including opportunities to earn and maintain a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification as well as assistance in obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Both credentials support employee development and can lead to advancement to the Senior Maintenance Worker designation.
Maintenance Workers have the opportunity for advancement, including a pay increase, upon successfully obtaining a CDL and MOT certification. The goal at Road & Bridge is to provide a safe and efficient transportation system that ensures the mobility of people, goods, and services in St. Johns County.
The newly selected Maintenance Worker will work as a member of a Road & Bridge crew to complete the work necessary to maintain roads, bridges, and drainage systems in St. Johns County and must possess St. Johns County's core values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Uses proper safety procedures and utilizes proper safety equipment.
Performs manual labor associated with the construction, repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and drainage systems.
Sets up appropriate work zones and flags and directs traffic.
Operates and maintains power equipment, pumps, saws, compactors, chainsaws, etc.
Attends training, administrative, safety and other meetings.
Drives crew cab pickup, dump truck, and other vehicles and equipment.
Responds to after-hours emergencies.
Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Completion of 10th grade education or equivalency required.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in similar related work.
A valid Florida driver's license or State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position are preferred.
Incumbent may be designated "Senior Maintenance Worker" and placed at Pay Grade 10, with the following certifications: High School Diploma or equivalency, CDL - B, and Intermediate MOT Certification.
Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
Must be able to operate a computer.

Working Conditions may include some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.
