Radiologic Technologist
This position is an integral part of the urgent care team and requires the ability to work effectively with providers and ancillary staff to deliver high quality, compassionate patient care. Under the direct supervision of the provider, the radiographer will be responsible for providing quality x-rays to allow for accurate radiologic diagnosis with the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient. This position also functions as a member of the clinical team thereby conducting patient assessments, procedures, and education in the urgent care/occupational health setting. This position must have basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care symptom management to be able to assess, plan, and deliver timely and appropriate care, especially in emergent situations.
This position requires the ability to provide high quality, compassionate patient care in a fast paced environment. This position requires compliance with all the policies/procedures of MyMichigan Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Clinical Laboratory Improvement (CLIA) regulations, and all appropriate regulatory agencies. The radiographer may be required to participate in the training of new employees, students and float staff.
May also perform general office duties (keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer and office equipment) as required by the practice. The expectations outlined in this job description may vary slightly depending on the practice in which you are assigned.
Responsibilities:
Performs radiographic procedures utilizing accurate application of ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, by adjusting technical factors to provide appropriate exposures. Compliance with MyMichigan Health radiology protocols is required.
Positions patient and equipment appropriately to accurately demonstrate the area being examined, requiring extensive anatomic positioning skills. Appropriately adjusts equipment to produce quality film with minimal exposure. Provides appropriate radiation protection for the patient and staff during radiation exposures according to prescribed safety standards. Informs patient of x-ray procedures.
Greets patients and/or family, takes vital signs, obtains/reviews medical, social, surgical and medication history, and allergy information. Prepares patient for examination, performs procedures (in office labs: urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens; EKG's, TB testing, etc.) and reports results to providers. Communicates information regarding testing, procedures and follow up care to patient in a clear, concise and professional manner
Accurately documents all patient information in the medical record according to current guidelines.
Assists provider with examinations and procedures
Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set up after a procedure. Disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes medical instruments.
Other duties and responsibilities:
Cleans and disinfects x-ray room and equipment after each patient use.
Provides a complete patient assessment, as indicated within the scope of the practice.
Based on the practice, may be required to: demonstrate competency to assist with procedures such as, but not limited to venipuncture, Orthopedic Casting Lab (OCL) splinting, electrocardiogram (EKG), Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), audiometry, vision testing, dressing changes, respirator fit testing, drug and alcohol testing.
Respirator Fit testing requires the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of various mask types and proper mask fitting according to OSHA regulations.
Ensures compliance with company protocols, organizational departmental policies and protocols, and local (MIOSHA), and federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement (CLIA), Joint Commission, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines.
Performs Autoclave procedure according to policy.
Maintains a stocked, clean, sterile and safe environment. If applicable, maybe required to travel to satellite clinics.
Demonstrates critical thinking for patient management.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality and ensures patient's rights in accordance with proper procedures and in compliance with Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).
May be asked to perform clerical duties filling out insurance forms, correspondence, arranging hospital admission, answering the telephone, updating/filing patient's medical records. Orders supplies and medications.
Participate as needed in continuous quality improvement projects and activities. This includes daily, weekly, monthly checks of equipment, supplies and medications. In addition, staff may be asked to participate in organizational performance improvement projects.
This position may be required to order all medical, pharmacy supplies, and office supplies to manage patient care
Ensures all Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Tasks are completed in a timely manner.

Certifications and Licensures:
ARRT - Reg Radiologic Technologist
Required Equivalent Experience - Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registry eligible within 6 months of hire.
BLS - Basic Life Support
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 3 months of hire or transfer
TEAM ADVANCED - Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt
Required Equivalent Experience - Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification)

Experience, Training and Skills:
Knowledge of radiologic technology as normally acquired through completion of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved radiologic technology program.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) registry eligible.
One year clinical experience as normally acquired through AMA approved school of radiologic technology.
Minimum of one year experience as staff Radiologic Technologist in hospital setting preferred.
Previous experience in an urgent care or occupational health setting and/or medical practice preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
