Position Overview University Schools is seeking a compassionate, student-centered Registered Nurse to join our educational team. The School Nurse plays a critical role in supporting student health, safety, and wellness while helping remove health-related barriers to learning. This position provides direct nursing services, health education, care coordination, emergency response, and consultation to students, families, and staff in a collaborative K-12 educational environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise, support, and train health clerks and other designated personnel to ensure quality health services. Collaborate with health care providers, parents, staff, and community agencies to ensure continuity of care. Collaborate as a member of the University Schools nursing team to ensure consistent health services, compliance, and student care practices across campuses. While each School Nurse may have a primary campus assignment, nurses are expected to work cooperatively to provide consultation, support, training, and coverage assistance at other school locations as needed. Perform nursing assessments, first aid, triage, interventions, and referrals for ill or injured students. Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Health Care Action Plans (HCAPs) and support student accommodations through IEP and Section 504 processes. Provide safe delegation and oversight of health-related tasks in accordance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act, state law and district policy. Monitor student health records and ensure compliance with Colorado immunization requirements and district policies. Consult regarding communicable diseases, public health concerns, and student wellness initiatives. Provide health counseling, education, and referrals related to physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of adolescents. Serve as a member of multidisciplinary teams including Special Education, Section 504, crisis response, and child protection teams. Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable regulations. Serve as a resource for students, families, and staff regarding health-related concerns. Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Operations Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance consistent with the expectations of the position.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, illnesses, injuries, treatments, medications, nutrition, and adolescent development. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to student health services. Ability to assess and respond appropriately to student health concerns and emergencies. Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and medical professionals. Ability to maintain accurate records and use electronic health and student information systems. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related field from an accredited institution. Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) License. Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Colorado Department of Education Special Services Provider License, or ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in pediatric, emergency, public health, community health, or school nursing. Experience working with school-aged children and adolescents. Knowledge of Colorado school health requirements and special education processes.

Working Conditions Work in standard school building environment. Exposure to body secretions, blood borne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, illnesses and diseases. May be exposed to poor weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and snow and other outdoor weather conditions. The work environment combines standard office setting including some standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.) The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
