Job Summary:
Operating Room Nurse specializing in Open Heart (OR OH) procedures in Des Moines, Iowa. This role involves providing comprehensive perioperative care in a busy Level I Trauma Center with a focus on cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and general surgeries. The position is ideal for experienced nurses seeking a fast-paced environment with diverse case types, including advanced cardiovascular surgeries.
Job Details:
Schedule: Days shift, 10 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: 24 months of current operating room / CVOR experience, with at least 80% of experience in Cardiac cases and 20% in General cases; basic General Surgery circulating experience; EPIC electronic medical systems experience within the past 3 years; Trauma Level I experience highly preferred; no first-time travelers, must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months; scrub experience including open heart scrubbing; licensed actively in Iowa or a multi-state compact license; BLS certification (AHA or ARC).
Preferred Qualifications: Trauma Level II experience; proficiency in vascular, thoracic, and general operating room procedures.
Experience Requirement: Minimum of 2 years of relevant operating room and CVOR experience required.
Certifications: BLS (AHA) required.
State Licenses: Active Iowa license or multistate license required.
Other Requirements: Ability to work across all campuses, including floating to different facilities; professional references within 24 months; drivers license documentation.
Start Date: 09/14/2026
Additional Details:

Orientation scheduled over approximately 7 weeks, including vascular, cardiac, and general circulating roles.
Call requirements include up to 2 overnight shifts per week and 1 weekend per month, with a schedule from Friday 5 PM through Monday 6:30 AM.
Holiday work required unless the unit is closed.
Call back pay is at 1.5x with a minimum of 2 hours.
Floating across all campuses is required.
