Job Summary / Purpose:

To facilitate student achievement by helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, capable, and responsible adults.

Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitate student achievement.

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.

Plan a program of study that best meets each student’s needs, interests, and abilities.

Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and suitable to student maturity.

Prepare for classes and provide written lesson plans to administrators upon request.

Guide learning toward curriculum goals, set clear objectives, and communicate them to students.

Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, considering the physical resources and student capabilities.

Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Monitor student achievement.

Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.

Diagnose learning disabilities with assistance from district specialists.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records in accordance with law and district policy.

Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when reasonably requested.

Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Implement district philosophy of education and instructional goals in all actions.

Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Assist administration in enforcing student life and conduct policies, and develop fair classroom rules.

Plan and supervise assignments for teacher/building aides and volunteers, evaluating performance.

Maintain and continually improve professional competence through PDC activities and professional development.

Attend staff meetings and serve on required staff committees.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree and a Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching certification.

Knowledge and Skills

Proficiency in preparing rigorous, interactive, and informative lesson plans.

Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Desktop Publisher, and database management.

Ability to work effectively with colleagues, parents, administrators, and others.

Superior interpersonal skills to facilitate an excellent educational experience in a high‑energy, high‑stress environment.

Discretion and confidentiality in accordance with district and Board of Education policies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Self‑directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently.

Physical Demands
The employee regularly stands, walks, sits, talks, hears, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, and lifts up to 25 pounds. Vision and hearing requirements include close and distance vision, ability to adjust and focus, depth perception, normal conversation, phone conversation, and isolating voices in multiple conversations.

Work Environment / Conditions
Primarily in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor work.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials Used
Personal computer, copier, fax machine, 10‑key calculator.

Terms of Employment
Assigned to a 190‑day work calendar; minimum of 36 hours and 40 minutes per week; compensation and benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life) as provided by the Board of Education.
