Care management nurse - hospital

Staff Nurse (SP - 2026-635)
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Staff Nurse evaluates and manages the clinical care of participants in the Glycogen Storage Disease (GSD) clinical trials. The role involves following study-specific protocol guidelines, communicating with investigators, hospital staff, and other stakeholders, and ensuring all research activities are conducted safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Study Design and Development: Communicate with Study Coordinators, department leadership, and sponsors to coordinate study-specific activities at UConn Health.

Study Coordination and Management: Work effectively with the PI or designated designee to implement assigned clinical research tasks; organize and execute study activities in an efficient manner; ensure compliance with UCHC policies and state/federal regulations; respond to sponsor queries; explain research projects to potential subjects and their families; determine subject eligibility; collect and compile clinical data; document study visits in the electronic medical record (EPIC).

Clinical Study Coordination: Evaluate and document subjects' responses to therapeutic regimens per protocol; procure research specimens as needed; serve as a resource person for physicians, nurses, family members, and subjects.

Training and Education of Research Staff: Attend required training, meetings, and orientations; complete yearly training assigned by UCHC; maintain professional expertise through involvement in professional organizations and continuing education programs.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of medical equipment related to patient care.

Demonstrated clinical competence in GSD, including phlebotomy and IV insertion.

Computer proficiency in a Windows environment; familiarity with EPIC electronic medical system.

Ability to work productively with individuals and groups; plan and execute work; seek supervision and consultation; make responsible decisions within area of expertise; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Perform infusions, blood draws, or other delegated clinical interventions as dictated by protocol or delegated by the PI.

Flexibility with scheduled hours as required by research protocol needs.

Attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, organization, and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Minimum Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Minimum one year of RN experience.

Successful completion of Human Subjects Protection Training through NIH or USCH within one month of employment.

Current BLS and PAS certifications.

Preferred Experience

Experience with Glycogen Storage Disease or other rare diseases.

Experience with clinical trials and FDA regulations.

Experience in emergency, ICU, or oncology settings.

Compensation and Duration

Hourly rate: $66.96 (temporary position with no benefits).

Duration: 12 months.

Schedule: Temporary Per Diem - approximately 20-30 hours per month, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., based on clinical trial needs, with a 30‑minute unpaid meal break.
