Join our Transport NSIP and Technical Team, where you’ll play a vital role in shaping Suffolk’s infrastructure, including the Sizewell C development and other nationally significant infrastructure projects. You’ll be part of a collaborative, supportive team, ensuring technical approval and inspection of highway improvements. Providing technical approval for major infrastructure projects, ensuring roads can be adopted as highways and protecting the Council’s interests.

Checking highway designs for developments to ensure that the proposed layouts and construction of highway improvements and new estate roads comply with SCC guidance.

Inspecting the construction of roads, footways and drainage to ensure compliance with highway construction standards, specifications and design guides.

Working closely with colleagues across Transport Strategy to deliver seamless processes from consultation to project delivery.

Negotiating with developers and consultants on technical solutions for road layouts, junctions, footpaths, drainage, and street lighting.

Accurately recording technical approval details and supporting the planning approval process.

Relevant Level 5/6 qualification or considerable highway design experience.

Experience in transport strategy, engineering, and (ideally) construction site work.

Good working knowledge of relevant legislation, technical frameworks, and local government.

The Transport Strategy team is part of the Strategic Development division, helping to deliver growth in Suffolk. Developing transport policy, including the Local Transport Plan.

Securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives.

Development management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk’s growth ambitions.
