monitoring and supervising the custody staff and providing staff training and performance evaluations; and assisting in the maintenance of an efficient camp operation that satisfies all legal mandates and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) policies and procedures. The Assistant Camp Commander is a first line supervisor responsible for direct supervision when acting in the capacity of Strike Team Leader. The Assistant Camp Commander is expected to keep abreast of camp and department policies and procedures and attend all scheduled training and meetings.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full‑time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. About this location -- The primary mission of Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Principles and practices of personnel supervision, training and discipline to effectively supervise the daily operation of the facility/work site. First Aid/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation to effectively provide first responder/emergency medical care. The use and care of firearms for the safety of staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. A supervisor’s role in the EEO Program and the processes available to meet the Department’s EEO objectives as it relates to the supervision and management of departmental personnel. Coleman, Armstrong, Clark, Plata, Valdivia) to ensure staff fulfill the operational requirements of the department and the developmental needs of the employee. The various prison gangs and security threat groups (e.g., behavior, activities structure) to minimize disruptions that impede the orderly operation of the institution. Computer usage (e.g., software programs, word processing) to maintain accurate records, communicate effectively, contribute to the department’s needs, etc. The Use of Force policy and reporting requirements to ensure staff fulfill the operational requirements of the department and comply with Federal and State laws, court mandates, regulations, etc. Working Effectively with Female Offenders (WEFO) and gender identification to ensure staff fulfill the operational requirements of the department and comply with Federal and State laws, court mandates, regulations, etc. Memorandum of Understanding to comply with the agreement between CDCR and bargaining units. Control, direct and instruct Incarcerated Persons, individually and in groups, to maintain the orderly operation of the facility and ensure the safety of staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. Make arithmetic computations in order to account for Incarcerated Persons and manage resources. Use computers and software programs to input, retrieve and update database information and monitor, track and supervise staff/ Incarcerated Persons assignments.
