The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.​

• ​Assesses patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. ​
• Assesses patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards. ​
• Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
• Uses specialized equipment and supplies safety and effectively, with adaptations according to patient age, size, and developmental needs. ​Collaborates with respiratory therapy practitioners and physicians in the care of intubated patients. Administers vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, inotropic, sedative and paralytic agents per policy and unit standard. ​
• Applies best practices to the care of sedated patients, minimizing the potential for injury.
• Serves as an example of professional nursing practice and promotes pride in nursing for the organization, the community, and the health care industry. ​
• Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, bedside shift report, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
• Functions as a good steward of financial resources by effectively managing supplies, equipment, length of stay, and throughput. ​
• Assumes personal accountability for work time.
