Firefighter - Paramedic
Under supervision of the Fire Captain, Firefighter - Paramedic accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property. Participates in the combating, extinguishing and prevention of fires as well as providing emergency medical care, rescue and protection of individuals from hazardous environments. Maintains fire station, grounds, and equipment, participates in fire prevention inspection, fire prevention, and suppression training.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to team members, the general public and Tribal Citizens while maintaining confidential information.
Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials situations and other emergency/non-emergency calls to protect life and property endangered.
Performs all firefighter duties; lays and connects hoses; directs water streams in the control and extinguishing of fires in structures, brush and grass; uses forcible entry tools, bars, hooks, ladders, extinguishers and other equipment.
Raises and climbs ladders; ventilates structures; accomplishes salvage operations.
Administers emergency medical care to treat patients.
Operates a two-way radio to communicate with the communications center.
Participates in fire prevention programs and inspections to enforce fire prevention codes and ordinances.
Works 48-Hour shifts and overtime; may be recalled or held on duty according to the response needs of the Fire Department.
Operates a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
~ High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (Ksa)
Principles and practices of fire suppression and prevention.
Principles and practices of emergency medical care.
Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
Safety practices and precautions pertaining to emergency services.
Ability to learn local streets, fire alarms, fire hydrants, public and local government buildings, and local hazards.
Read and understand departmental policies, rules, regulations and instructions to include: fire prevention & suppression literature and emergency medical care instructions.
Communicates clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing, with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and responsible course of action.
Basic knowledge of computers and programs to include MS Office, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Environmental Safety - Demonstrates pride in the entire facility by maintaining a clean, safe work environment for guests and co-workers. Consistently demonstrates personal ownership for cleanliness and maintaining exceptional housekeeping standards within the department, facility and all Tribal owned properties. Consistently demonstrates concern for personal safety and the safety of guests, vendors and other team members by immediately addressing or reporting all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
Licenses, Certifications And Registrations
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
Completion of California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Academy or California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate.
Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent.
Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational (CSTI or equivalent).
ICS 100-Introduction to ICS, ICS 200-Basic ICS.
IS 700 NIMS: An Introduction.
Must furnish upon initial employment with San Manuel Fire Department, proof of successful completion of any California recognized physical ability test (Biddle, CPAT, or any other recognized PAT) within the last twelve (12) months).
Preferred
California State Fire Marshal Fire Fighter II Certification.
Fire Control III and Fire Control VII.
S 190.
Driver/Operator 1A.
One (1) year experience as a fire fighter (Career, Volunteer, or PCF).
Hazardous Materials IC, ASO, WMD, IQ, Tech, Spec or Decon.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
~ Performs as a Paramedic under approved medical protocols, department SOP's and clinical standards of care.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (Ksa)
Establish intravenous and intraosseous access, place basic and advanced airway adjuncts and perform other advanced medical skills.
Correctly interpret and identify static and dynamic cardiac rhythms, the appropriate medications, dosages and electrical therapies to treat dysrhythmias and other medical conditions.
Licenses, Certifications And Registrations
Current EMT-P (Must be valid in State of California).
Valid ICEMA accreditation as an EMT-P upon appointment.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions – Environment
Primary work environment is in a variety of settings. Work indoors and out in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, smoke, fumes, odors, vibrations, loud noises, hazardous materials, and noxious gases.
Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
Strength sufficient to exert up to 200 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 200 pounds occasionally. Climb up and down ladders of up to 105 feet and work at considerable heights (commercial roof tops).
Sedentary work: involves operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
Must successfully complete the Wildland Work Capacity Test "Pack Test" at arduous level.
