Invictus Academy is an independent public charter school located in El Cerrito and we are seeking a Dean of Students (grades 7-12) to join our team who believes deeply that the mission, model, and values at Invictus are driving improved educational outcomes for students.

The Dean of Students plays an invaluable role in building the cultural and academic foundation of Invictus Academy. In close partnership with the Principal, the Dean of Students designs, executes, monitors, and continuously improves school culture systems, including parent involvement, discipline and restorative justice, and supporting teachers to create joyful, structured, and productive learning environments. The Dean of Students will lead staff professional development, interface with all members of the campus community, and be relied upon as a leader on campus.

Serve as the Dean of Students for grades 7-12

Support Summer School programming and execution

Set and hold high expectations for school culture, ensuring teachers and staff create and maintain a positive, joyful, structured, and productive school culture

Collect and monitor school culture data, designing and implementing schoolwide and classroom-specific responses to address areas of need

Manage and oversee school wide communication with parents, driving towards a ratio of three positive communications for each corrective one

Ensure referral entries and DeansList data are entered daily, following up with teachers as necessary

Respond to student violations of school policies related to behavior including but not limited to technology misuse, uniform, electronics, missed class time, HallPass violations, and use of harmful language

Manage Phoenix [student] of the Week process, including voting process, data review, and student/family-facing communications

engaging families in partnership to support students as appropriate

Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of individual student behavior intervention plans including student “scorecards”

Manage and coordinate restorative follow up or disciplinary action: restorative chats, assignments, conferences, ISS protocols

Leads the Dean’s Office to ensure effective implementation of all culture systems and policies

Support continuous growth of school program through identifying school-wide challenges and working towards solutions

Give and receive honest and direct feedback to improve your practice, that of your peers, and school leaders

Attend and participate in school-wide events including Back to School Night, Parent/Teacher conferences, End of the Year events, Grade Level Meetings, Department Meetings, Summer Professional Development, weekly Professional Development during the school year, and other assigned meetings.

Demonstrate proficient use of technology to communicate with staff, families, and community members using multiple school-based platforms.

Utilize Educational Technology platforms for curriculum development and planning.

Foster open and respectful communication, offering and receiving constructive feedback to enhance personal and team performance.

Set and hold high expectations for academics and behavior.

Create and maintain a joyful, safe, structured, and engaging school and classroom culture.

Demonstrate passion for the content area you coach.

Encourage students to take risks and learn from their mistakes and create opportunities for students to leverage the power of their voice.

Participate in the performance evaluation process, which is based on adherence to the outlined responsibilities and qualifications.

PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Earned Bachelor’s Degree.

Our ideal candidate has at least three years of experience working in schools and supporting high needs students and vulnerable populations.

This full‑time and on‑site position requires sufficient mobility to report to campus, work in an office, and engage with students, families, and colleagues, with or without reasonable accommodations. The employee must effectively prioritize and organize tasks while maintaining open and respectful communication with families and community members using school platforms and technology. Attendance and active participation in school‑wide events, professional development sessions, and other assigned meetings are essential.
