We are looking for a true culinary professional to join our team of artisan bakers. As a Baker at Ole & Steen you will learn about real Danish bread and pastries. You will produce artisan Danish breads, rolls, and laminated dough as a part of an enthusiastic and international team,
The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic about baking, love long fermentation times, and enjoy working as a team. The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele and you must expect to produce a high volume of products for our stores. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in learning about our Danish heritage and learn about real Danish breads and pastries.

Prepare a variety of breads, ryes, rolls, and pastries according to our traditional Danish recipes
Observe and maintain the quality of products being baked, and adjust oven temperatures, baking time accordingly
Measuring and combining ingredients and using mixers, ovens, and other equipment
Checking quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met
Monitor inventory of ingredients for production
Check equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations
Completion of a Culinary School program or apprenticeship preferred

• 1-3 years of professional baking experience . Experience with Danish or Scandinavian baking methods is a huge plus!
• Experience with mixing, bench work, proofing, and baking bread as well as working with laminated doughs for our breakfast pastry production
• Ability to work overnight, weekends, and some holidays
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures

Accrue 40 hours paid Holiday on your first year and 80 hours on your second year

Ole & Steen was founded in 1991 by the Danish bakers Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk and originally called Lagkagehuset or “The Layer Cake House”. Ole & Steen is pioneer in the resurgence of artisanal and handcrafted baking practices in Denmark. In 2008 the two bakers joined forces and became the organization we know today.
We have been Denmark’s favorite bakery for more than 30 years, serving delicious Danish breads, pastries, cakes, single estate coffee and food. We opened our first bakery on Union Square in 2019 to huge acclaim and fantastic reviews and we’re continuing our exciting growth journey – we currently operate 3 retail stores across NYC, and we have plans to grow and expand over the coming years!
