Structural Engineering Senior A

For more than 60 years, Bennett & Pless has delivered structural engineering solutions across a wide range of markets. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our growing team in our Loudoun, VA office. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the structural engineering design and delivery of a wide variety of projects, overseeing the full project lifecycle from concept development through construction completion. You will serve as a technical leader on projects, applying sound engineering judgment to develop practical, efficient design solutions while ensuring quality, accuracy, and client satisfaction.

The Senior Engineer will work closely with clients, architects, contractors, and internal project teams to coordinate design efforts, resolve technical challenges, and support successful project execution. Depending on project needs and experience, you may serve as Project Manager and/or Engineer of Record. This role also includes attending project meetings, participating in business development activities, and helping strengthen existing client relationships while identifying opportunities for future work.

As our Loudoun office continues to expand, there will be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility, influence the growth of the team, and ultimately transition into a future Engineering Supervisor role.

Interacts with clients attending client, architect, and contractor meetings, reviewing structural documentation, and supervising/mentoring junior staff.

Oversight of design calculations, preparation of the construction documents, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, site reviews, and RFI responses.

Coordinates information across all disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations and Bennett & Pless quality levels.

Performs QA/QC of work performed by others.

Mentors and provides oversight to engineering team. Responsible for the learning, professional development, and growth of the assigned team, as well as training and career development.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Master’s degree preferred.

• 10+ years’ experience required in structural engineering.
• People management experience
• Experience with industry standard software, including but not limited to Tekla Structural Designer (TSD), ETABS, SAFE, SAP, Microsoft products, Bentley (RAM) products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, etc.
• Project management experience/ability is required.
• Structural design experience utilizing different construction materials and structural systems; including but not limited to steel, concrete, and masonry design in low to mid-rise structures.
• Working knowledge of Revit is preferred.
• Client management experience is preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines, and bring each to completion.
