Mechanical Engineer IIThe Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions.The Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our team at our Tucson, Arizona location. In this on-site role, you will play a pivotal part as a member of a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team to design, analyze, and optimize next-generation aerospace mechanisms and structures.Your responsibilities will include component and assembly modeling, documentation, implementation of design changes, and management of release processes. Key aspects of this role will involve interpreting and understanding engineering requirements, creating conceptual designs and technical data packages (TDPs), integrating Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), performing first-order analyses, conducting engineering tests and preparing detailed test reports, as well as presenting during design reviews. This position may also require occasional travel to collaborate with vendors, support hardware procurement, oversee testing processes, and engage in related activities as needed.Operate independently with limited supervision to serve as the responsible engineer for mechanical hardware development and execution.Oversee and manage supplier activities related to the manufacturing of hardware and/or sub-assemblies, including the resolution and disposition of non-conforming hardware.Partner with other engineering departments and suppliers to address and resolve technical challenges efficiently.Provide support for engineering hardware assembly, including build processes and fit checks.Qualifications You Must HaveTypically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.Professional or University experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware.Experience with CAD design tools and/or best practices.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, data sorting/plotting, and technical documentation.Proficiency in utilizing CREO (Pro/E) or comparable 3D solid modeling software.Hands-on experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration and data management tools.Demonstrated expertise in areas such as mechanical subsystem packaging, materials science, thermal analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect design, airframe development, or large assembly engineering.Existing DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.What We OfferOur values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
