Psychiatrist Weekend

Overview The position provides professional psychiatric care and treatment to mentally ill adults in an in‑patient State psychiatric hospital. The Psychiatrist functions as Unit Coordinator, overseeing the activities of professional staff including Registered Nurses, Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Music Therapists, and Dietitians.

Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and treatment in accordance with Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulations.

Lead and supervise multidisciplinary staff to achieve patient treatment standards.

Maintain patient treatment plans and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.

Oversee unsupervised access to controlled substances and maintain strict accountability.

Perform rotational on‑call duty, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualifications Possession of a medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.

Completion of a psychiatric residency program and at least one year of experience as a psychiatrist in a mental health, clinic, program, or correctional facility.

License to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine and surgery in Michigan.

Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, and applicable laws and regulations governing psychiatric inpatient care.

Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams (preferred).

Additional Requirements Certified psychiatrists must satisfy American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology "general requirements" for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry if applying for that certification area.
