Engineering Associate - Structural/Civil Engineering

Position Overview This entry level engineer position works under close supervision; receives specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and results expected; performs a variety of routine tasks that provide experience and familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, practices, procedures and programs of the company. Emphasis for this position is on structural steel and concrete engineering, analysis and design.
Duties and Responsibilities Provide project engineering support on assigned projects and provide technical support to the Engineering & Project Management team as required.
Assist in monitoring ongoing work activities to confirm manufacturer/fabricator compliance to project plans and specifications and enforce compliance to all regulatory requirements.
Assist in coordination of work with E&PM Construction, plant outage coordinators, station planners and on‑site and off‑site contractors.
Assist in coordination of Tampa Electric comments to consulting engineer and supplier documents.
Assist E&PM engineering and construction personnel in developing Scope of Works, project schedules, and cost estimates.
Schedule and facilitate project team meetings/conference calls to maintain project schedules and costs.
Support Energy Supply power plants in identifying and solving O'M problems; augment plant staff when needed to meet day‑to‑day and outage requirements.
Perform any other task as assigned by the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer.
Storm Duty Requirements Team members are required to respond to storms as a condition of employment and participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters.
Licenses / Certifications Preferred: FE or ability to obtain FE within 1 year of employment.
Education Required: Bachelors in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college.
Experience Eng Associate: None.
Engineer I: Minimum of 18 months of experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position in the area of power plant engineering or 12 months with FE.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Contributes to team effort by collaboration and accomplishment; working knowledge of structural steel and concrete analysis and design; proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills Software programs such as STAAD and MathCAD.
Familiar with AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and OSHA.
Proficient with CAD software such as AutoCAD; manual drafting skills.
Demonstrated assignment and schedule adaptability; high ownership, self‑motivation and personal accountability.

Working Conditions Travel - Up to 10%, overnight and extended assignments possible.
Travel from home office to TEC’s Big Bend, Bayside and Polk Power Stations expected and could be frequent.
Working outdoors in hot, humid, wet and/or cold conditions 25% to 50% of the work day.
Working in a Power Generation facility up to 25% to 50% of the work day.
Working conditions could include areas of elevated noise (hearing protection required).
Working some overtime (nights, weekends and holidays).
Physical Demands / Requirements Walking, bending, climbing 25% to 50% of the work day.
Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 50% of the work day.
Requires climbing stairs and scaffolding, utilizing safety harnesses, respiratory protection and other PPE.
Accessing power plant areas up to 500 feet above ground.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Working in noise, dust and high humidity areas while utilizing Personnel Protection Equipment; flexibility to crawl in and out of tight confined areas.
