Civil Engineering Associate I - Construction

Job Summary As the Civil Engineer, your responsibility is to perform engineering and design to ensure successful completion of Long Island Transmission & Distribution construction projects.
Job Responsibilities Prepare & check civil engineering calculations and drawings in accordance with the latest industry codes & standards using computer programs such as TeamCenter, AutoCad, Staad III, Microsoft Office, etc. in support of the modifications and additions.
Approve vendor drawings and shop drawings. Prepare, update and analyze cost estimates and budget documents.
Evaluate soil boring data and soil reports. Determine the load bearing capacity and settlement parameters for foundation design. Select pile type and furnish design.
Participate in site investigations, prepare as‑built sketches of existing field conditions for design purposes, witness & perform key inspections during construction and resolve field problems encountered during construction.
Participate in project meetings for the development and subsequent progress of projects with civil engineering requirements. Prepare project documents, bid packages, contract documents, specifications, evaluate contractor proposals and participate in contractor pre‑award meetings.
Prepare general scope of work and procurement documents to obtain outside consultants for engineering assistance. Monitor consultants as work progresses. Evaluate and approve consultants’ final reports, drawings & specifications.
Perform field inspections and prepare formal inspection reports with recommendations for existing facilities regarding safety, repair and modification. Perform field inspections and testing of various secondary containment systems for petroleum and hazardous material products.
Qualifications Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Strong knowledge of structural analysis, reinforced concrete, structural steel and soil mechanics as well as marine structures.
Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, NESC, NYSDOT, NYS & local building codes.
Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., TeamCenter), 3D structural analysis and design software (e.g., Staad III) and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of ANSI, ASTM, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation. Familiarity with OSHA guidelines.
Experience with Microsoft Office computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Desired: EIT Certificate and ability to obtain Professional Licensure in NYS.
Desired: Knowledge of engineering design and analysis of underground electric transmission systems, including 23‑345 KV pipe‑type cable and solid dielectric cable systems.
Desired: Demonstrated verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills and computer skills.
Security & Clearance Requirements Some positions at PSEG require access to information covered by the Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 (Part 810). If applicable, the successful applicant must prove they are: (1) a citizen or national of the USA; OR (2) a lawful permanent resident of the United States; OR (3) a citizen, national, or permanent resident of a “Generally Authorized” destination on the attached list and not also a citizen, national, permanent resident of any country not listed; OR (4) a “Protected Individual” under the Immigration and Naturalization Act.
As an employee of PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and work extended hours beyond your regular work schedule. You may also be required to work on‑premise or in an alternate location as directed by the company.
Salary Range: $67,200 - $106,400.
