POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

REPORTS TO Building Principal

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To provide an educational program that will develop basic educational skills and foster the social and emotional growth of assigned students in a multicultural setting.

QUALIFICATION PROFILE

CERTIFICATION / LICENSE State Certification including Kindergarten EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Develops and implements an instructional program consistent with the goals of the district.
Teaches desirable work habits and encourages students in their accomplishments.
Provides students with needed skills for formal learning.
Develops and implements an instructional program to meet the needs of students in a full-day kindergarten class.
Makes use of significant aspects of pupil growth as a guide in planning individual and group activities.
Assesses student needs and prescribes appropriate learning tasks.
Employs a variety of approaches in presenting new material.
Uses community resources where applicable and available.
Prepares and maintains written plans to meet the individual needs and utilizes creative abilities.
Uses knowledge of student's background to facilitate program planning.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Promotes student self-awareness, self-respect, confidence and trust.
2. Creates an atmosphere in which students feel free to express themselves.
3. Develop intercultural awareness and understanding among students.
4. Provides a learning environment conductive to the student's educational development.
5. Develops the importance of good citizenship.
6. Guides the work of the paraprofessional assigned to the program.
7. Establishes criteria for evaluation and use of tests to diagnose student needs and progress.
8. Confers with individual students relative to progress attained, recommending reinforcement procedures or enrichment activities.
9. Keep parents informed of student's progress.
10. Establishes criteria for evaluation and maintains records of pupil's growth.
11. Keep accurate records as required by building, district, state or federal regulations.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Shares professional literature and innovative practices with staff.
Contributes to school committees, staff meetings and other staff efforts.
Assists in interpreting the district's instructional program to parents and the community.
Follows school procedures as established by the principal in accordance with the contract.
Keeps informed of developments in Early Childhood Education.
Makes constructive use of personal evaluation.

EQUIPMENT

Must be able to use personal computer, printer and other job-related equipment

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Infrequent travel to schools as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

SALARY & BENEFITS As per Agreement with the New Britain Federation of Teachers.
WORK SCHEDULE As per Agreement with the New Britain Federation of Teachers.
