Job SummaryWe are seeking a Controls System Engineer to design, develop, and support advanced automation systems in a high-speed manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable machine control, optimizing system performance, and integrating cutting-edge automation technologies to support production goals.Key ResponsibilitiesHigh-Speed Automation & ControlsDevelop, program, and support controls systems for high-speed automated assembly equipmentTroubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, and industrial networks to minimize downtimeSupport commissioning, startup, and validation of new automation equipmentOptimize machine performance for cycle time, reliability, and qualityMaterial Handling AutomationSupport controls integration for automated material handling systems including robotics, AMRs, AGVs, and conveyor systemsDevelop and maintain logic for movement, storage, and retrieval of totes, pallets, and componentsEnsure seamless communication between equipment and warehouse/production control systemsVision Systems IntegrationConfigure, program, and support high-speed vision inspection systems for part quality verificationIntegrate vision systems with PLCs and production equipmentTroubleshoot vision-related defects and improve inspection performanceContinuous Improvement & Problem SolvingLead and support improvements using:Lean Manufacturing principlesSix Sigma methodologiesPDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act)RCA (Root Cause Analysis)Analyze system performance data to identify issues and implement corrective actionsDrive reliability improvements and reduce downtime eventsCross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Maintenance teamsPartner with system integrators, OEMs, and suppliers for controls development and supportProvide technical training and support to operations and maintenance personnelRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field8 years minimum experience with PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent)Experience with HMIs, motion control, and industrial communication protocolsAbility to troubleshoot complex automation and control systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and teamwork abilitiesPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting high-speed automation environments (300+ parts per minute preferred)Medical device manufacturing experience strongly preferredExperience with:Robotics and automated material handling systems (AMR, AGV)High-speed vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.)Proficiency in Lean and Six Sigma methodologiesFamiliarity with MES systems and data integrationExperience with safety systems and machine safety standardsKey CompetenciesStrong troubleshooting and diagnostic skillsContinuous improvement mindsetAbility to work in fast-paced, high-volume environmentsHands-on, results-driven approachStrong collaboration and communication skillsWork EnvironmentCombination of office and manufacturing floorHands-on interaction with automation equipment and controls systemsOccasional travel for equipment integration and supplier supportReporting StructureReports to: Engineering ManagerWorks closely with: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Automation teamsBE AWARE OF FRAUD: When applying for a job at Jabil you will be contacted via correspondence through our official job portal with a jabil.direct phone call from a member of the Jabil team; Jabil will not ask for your personal identifying information such as a social security number, birth certificate, financial institution, driver’s license number or passport information over the phone or via e-mail.
