Database Administrator III
Job Location: Cary, NC Job Duration: 2 - 3 Months
Client is seeking a Hadoop Administrator to assist in managing a large scale 7x24x365 Hadoop cluster environment.
The successful candidate will have a track record of operational excellence managing large scale production databases utilizing one or more of the following (Hadoop, HBase)
This position will work close with the existing DBA team to provide support in our development and production environments.
This individual will work closely with our application development teams to design, develop and implement new enhancements and database applications.
The ideal candidate will be technically savvy, with excellent communication skills and possess the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with business and technology partners.
A passion for technology with a proven track record of implementing new technology and features is a must.
Summary of Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continuous availability of several Hadoop and NoSQL clusters.
Evaluating and operationalizing new technologies, automation, and innovating new ways to manage database infrastructure.
Manage and maintain servers across multiple environments
Advise development teams on clustering, indexing and other performance and architecture issues Monitor deployments for capacity and performance
Define and implement backup strategies per data retention requirements Admin NoSQL databases to achieve 100% monthly availability
Solve production problems when needed 24x7 Develop and document best practices for data migration.
Install/upgrade Hadoop big data platform
Implement security for Hadoop big data platform
Certify new versions and the patches of Hadoop big data platform
Periodically review the new patches
Design and develop new tools for process improvements
Prepare SOPs for product installations, upgrades and any other new process
Analyze encryption methodologies and implement them in the environment
Setup best practices for monitoring
Analyze Hardware, Software requirements for the projects
Assist Build team with Environment requirements
Design and Develop new processes for better maintenance of the environments
Help Application and Operations team to troubleshoot the performance issues
Participate in the on-call rotation to support a 7x24x365 environment
Qualifications:

Unix/Database Administration experience in Hadoop big data platform
Experience in Hadoop software installs and upgrades
Experience in SOLR and Hbase
Experience in working with Linux platform
Ability to setup HA
Good knowledge in Shell Scripting
Strong in troubleshooting skills for performance issues and implementing the solutions
Needs to be good team player and work Independently
MongoDB is a plus
Splunk is a plus
