The Branch Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) serves as the dedicated residential mortgage expert within our credit union branch network. This role primarily focuses on servicing warm internal referrals and walk-in traffic generated by branch partners (Personal Bankers, Branch Managers, etc.), while also developing external relationships to generate external leads within the local community. The MLO guides members through the entire mortgage financing process, aligning credit union lending products with each member's long-term financial goals.
Serve as the primary mortgage point of contact for assigned credit union branches, partnering daily with branch staff to identify members with home financing needs.
Educate branch staff regularly on credit union mortgage products, promotions, and qualification criteria to optimize internal referral pipelines.
Attend local networking events, open houses, and community functions to build an independent referral network and drive external loan volume.
Conduct thorough financial consultations with members to analyze credit profiles, income, debt-to-income (DTI) ratios, and asset documentation.
Recommend appropriate credit union mortgage loan products to enable borrowers to make an informed decision tailored to meet their specific needs.
Maintain clear, consistent communication with borrowers, branch partners, real estate agents, and internal processing/underwriting teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
Identify opportunities to expand borrower relationships by proactively referring them to appropriate internal branch partners for financial services (e.g. retail banking, investments, or insurance).
Monitor local real estate market conditions, competitor offerings, and economic trends to identify growth opportunities.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
One (1) - Three (3) years of Retail Banking or Mortgage experience preferred.
Proficiency in utilizing Mortgage Loan Origination Systems, automated underwriting systems, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
Knowledge of regulations governing real estate, including Regulations B, C, X, Z, and the Fair Housing Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Must have or be able to obtain NMLS registration.
